What to do . . .

Cromer with its sandy beach is just right for building sand castles, playing games, swimming or sunbathing. No trip to Cromer would be complete without a stroll along the promenade. A visit to the famous Cromer pier is an ideal place to soak up the natural beauty and spectacle of sunrise and sunset over the sea. The annual Cromer Pier Show is a tradition which has probably changed very little from the Victorian period when the well to do promenaded on the seafront.

Cromer is perhaps best known outside Norfolk for its delicious crabs and those who enjoy a fun challenge can regularly be found crab catching on Cromer pier on many a summer’s day.

Many would say that Norfolk is flat but walkers and cyclists will love the undulating countryside. Nearby Felbrigg Hall, owned by the National Trust, is set in miles of woodland, offers parkland walks and is an ideal place for a picnic.

Birdwatching in Norfolk

Norfolk is an all seasons birdwatching county. Spring hosts visible migration whilst summer is a time to observe birds in full breeding plumage which may include Avocet, Bearded Tit, Marsh Harrier, Buzzard, Honey Buzzard, Nightjar, Stone Curlew, Woodlark, Bittern and Montagu’s Harrier. Autumn hosts our second migration season of the year with warblers, chats and flycatchers taking us nicely into the winter months with the arrival of finches, thrushes, owls and wild swans. Impressive numbers of waders and wildfowl can also be seen around the coast with a supporting cast of literally thousands of Pink-footed geese.

Much of the coastline is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and enthusiasts should have ample opportunity to explore and find a good selection of moths, dragonflies, butterflies and perhaps a bat or two .
